SEOUL, Oct. 4 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korea’s home appliance makers are redoubling efforts to improve customer access to their products, aimed at enabling anyone, including physically handicapped people, elderly people and children, to use them more easily and conveniently.

In early August, LG Electronics Inc. released a PuriCare Objet Collection water purifier using the nation’s first-of-its-kind voice recognition function.

This water purifier enables users to control the quantity of water dispensed by the purifier in 10 ㎖ increments simply through a voice command.

For instance, if customers say “Hi LG, give me 120 ㎖ of cold water” after placing a cup below the water purifier’s outlet, the exact quantity of cold water comes out of the purifier.

In addition to the water purifier, LG’s robot cleaners, air-conditioners, refrigerators and massage chairs also feature the voice recognition function.

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics Co. also showed off a family care function that enables users to check the health of their family members living alone or remotely by analyzing refrigerator usage frequency through SmartThings Home Care updates.

If users say “Hi Bixby, help me,” the device recognizes the request and sends push alarms to a pre-set list of family members.

In addition, Samsung’s Smart TVs have a string of innovative functions that allow users to select caption fonts and check the type of broadcasting services for persons with disabilities.
