Samsung's Bespoke water purifier takes the lead in removing microplastics

Samsung's Bespoke Water Purifier (Samsung Electronics)

Samsung Electronics said on December 13 that its Bespoke water purifier has been certified by the US product testing and certification agency NFS International to remove microplastics in water-a global industry first. Microplastics are tiny plastic fragments with a diameter of less than 5 microns, which is extremely difficult to detect. It is well known that they cause harmful effects on the human body, including cell death and allergic reactions. NFS International earlier this month announced a new test standard for removing microplastics, and Samsung's Bespoke water purifier was the first to receive this certification. The Bespoke water purifier equipped with a four-stage filtration system has so far obtained 83 certifications for reducing harmful substances, which is the largest number of water purifiers produced in Korea. Samsung said it has worked closely with experts and certification agencies to advance its filtration system, focusing on five key categories, including microplastics from sewage treatment plants, tiny particles such as PFOA and PFOS, and from bird toxins and pathogenic parasites. Biological toxic substances, environmental hormones and heavy metals such as lead, arsenic and mercury. The company said that in addition to the filter system, its purifiers use stainless steel purification tubes to prevent corrosion, and they are disinfected every three days. The company added that if consumers do not use the product within four hours, it will automatically discharge water to ensure safety. Author: Li Zhiyun (jylee@heraldcorp.com)
