Governor Hochul pledges up to $2 million in emergency funding to eligible homeowners affected by the flooding of Hurricane Ida

The recipients of assistance are residents of New York, Orange, Putnam, Sullivan, and Ulster counties who are not eligible for FEMA assistance

Governor Kathy Hochul announced today that it will provide up to $2 million in emergency funding to eligible homeowners in five counties affected by Hurricane Ida floods earlier this year. These homeowners cannot obtain FEMA personal assistance funds.

These new state funds will provide emergency repair grants to homeowners whose primary residence was damaged and cannot live safely during Ada.

"New Yorkers are still recovering from the effects of Hurricane Ida," Governor Hochell said. "We have been providing emergency assistance quickly and will continue to help eligible homeowners recover and rebuild their lives."

Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin said: "This administration is committed to helping homeowners recover from the storm and enabling communities to better resist the destructive effects of climate change. The grant fund announced today covers losses incurred by homeowners who meet the program’s income guidelines in their primary residence. The emergency funding is intended to serve as a bridge for New York to wait for additional federal funding under Congress through the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Program (CDBG-DR) and other funding programs earlier this fall.

Starting today, homeowners can apply for funds to pay for necessary emergency repairs to bring their home into a safe and livable state. Eligible repairs may include, but are not limited to, repair or replacement of electrical and plumbing systems; furnaces, water heaters, water filtration systems, sewage pumps, electrical appliances, and other health hazards, such as testing and customs clearance costs. Applicants for the program will work with one of the four non-profit partner organizations to finalize the scope of work approved under the program.

HCR Commissioner RuthAnne Visnauskas said: “Long after the storm passed, many communities and neighborhoods affected by Ida were still in chaos, and many houses were damaged to the point of being unsafe or uninhabitable. Thanks to Governor Hochul and our local non-profit organization for their cooperation. Partners, we will be able to help residents return home safely without worrying about whether their plumbing, electricity or other necessities pose a danger."

Representative Sean Patrick Maloney said: "Since witnessing the severe damage caused by Hurricane Ida in the Hudson Valley, I have been working hard to provide assistance to our storm-struck communities. To help homeowners, HCR established a call center through the New York City Community Center. Homeowners who live in five target counties and wish to apply for the program can complete the prequalification through the center and be referred to the administrators participating in the program. Area.
