Snyderville, Tennessee — Haitians are still recovering after a magnitude 7.2 earthquake hit the southern peninsula of Haiti in August.

Joe Hurston of East Tennessee is providing clean drinking water to the town of Saint-Louis-du-Sud to help rescue efforts.

Heston said the earthquake may have occurred a month ago, but people are still suffering and desperately need water.

"Some of their water sources have been destroyed," Heston said. "The earthquake destroyed all water lines, and the drains were mixed with clean water. Among them were typhoid fever and all other serious diseases, such as diarrhea."

Heston flew his private jet from Sneville to the southern tip of Florida before landing in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti.

On that plane, the Sneedville man carried a water purifier that could provide drinking water to thousands of people in Saint-Louis-du-Sud.

Heston said: "Our work has been completed, and we need to install as many of these units as possible."

For 43 years, Heston has been helping Haiti during the outbreak of civil strife and cholera.

The missionary pilot said that Haiti is in a difficult situation after the earthquake, but the country has some of the most resilient people in the world.

He said: "The disaster will come, they just started to work." "They will not wait for FEMA, they will not wait for any government help, because it will not come. They just started to clean up the mess and try to restore life."

Water purifiers have interchangeable parts and can provide water for decades after deployment. However, many devices do not have funds.
